Özet

Vibrations and movements caused by dynamic loads such as earthquakes result in huge damage and collapse in structures especially ones that contain soft stories more than other stories which have higher rigidity. From this point, this paper investigates the effectiveness of implementing a multiple-tuned mass dampers system into a soft-story structure in order to mitigate dynamic responses during seismic excitation. In order to achieve the optimization of TMD parameters such as period, frequency, mass, and damping, Jaya metaheuristic algorithm (JA) and Den-Hartog technique were used as the main techniques. These two techniques were established using Matlab (R2018a) programming. This paper contains mainly a two-story structure model. This model has three different main cases, which are: a model with a single TMD on each floor, a model with a single TMD on the top floor, and a model without any TMD. These models were loaded by 44 sets of earthquakes that were recorded by FEMA P-695. This study results in an improvement in mitigating dynamic responses on the soft-story structure by using multiple tuned mass dampers that were analyzed using Jaya metaheuristic algorithm compared to those analyzed by Den-Hartog technique.
