Özet

Ovarian cysts can present with abdominal complaints, hormonal stimulation or can be detected incidentally during abdominal imaging. They can be either benign physiologic cysts, or malignant neoplasms. Follicular cysts are common in fetuses, neonates and pubertal girls. They are physiological and do not require treatment if smaller than 5 cm diameter. Corpus luteum cysts follow ovulation and the majority involute spontaneously. Large, simple multi- and unilocular cysts >5 cm in diameter require close follow-up and surgical treatment may be necessary. Preoperative workup includes α-fetoprotein, β-hCG, LDH and CA-125, ultrasound and depending on the nature of the cyst MRI or CT scan should be obtained. Choice of treatment depends on ultrasound appearance of the ovarian cyst, clinical signs and presenting symptoms.
