Aim: The aim is to evaluate the results obtained from percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) placement in children with feeding difficulties due to chronic neurological disease in a pediatric surgical clinic and also to evaluate the current situation and circumstances in Türkiye on the subject. Material and Methods: PEG was placed under general anesthesia and antibioticprophylaxis in the operating theatre. Pull technique over a guide wire was used with the aid of fiber optic endoscopy. The caregiver was educated about the proper catheter use and care. Results: During an-8-month period, seven children having severe feeding difficulties and chronic neurological disease underwent PEG placement. They were aged between 15-120 months and weighed between 7,5-16 kg. No procedure-related major complication or mortality occurred. Currently six patients are alive and being fed through the PEG. All gained weight with a decrease in hospital admission rate and an increase in life quality within a catheter follow-up period of 80-265 days. The parents were positive about the effects of PEG on the general well-being and growth of their children. Conclusion: The results obtained showed PEG is safe and effective in providing long-term enteral nutritional support. It definitely deserves a try to overcome the difficulties and prejudice encountered in practice in our country.
