Sm 0,2 Ce 0,8 O 1,9 (known as SDC20) electrolytes were prepared using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as a template. To examine the sintering behavior of the materials, 5 minutes, 1 hour, and 6 hours of sintering processes were carried out at 1200, 1300, and 1400 ℃. The phase structure, crystallite sizes, and the lattice parameters of the sintered samples were clarified by XRD analysis. Density measurements were carried out using the Archimedes method and it was found that all samples reached a theoretical density of over 88%. The morphological structure was examined by SEM and the mean grain sizes were calculated with the Linear Intercept Method. The mean grain size of the sample sintered at 1400 ℃ for 6 h estimated as 1074 nm. The dominant diffusion mechanism during sintering is found to be grain boundary diffusion. The grain growth activation energy for 6 h sintering process calculated using grain growth kinetic equation and found to be 390 kJ/mol.
