Özet

To be a woman is an excellent experience but that is not case for the women living in patriarchal societies. Throughout the history, there has been a fundamental difference between men’s and women’s role. This study examined the role of women in African society through a short story. The short story, Sex Lives of African Girls, mainly focuses on the place of women in African society putting emphasis on the cultural, legal inequality between both sexes, sexual abuse of the women, molestation and also dissatisfaction coming into the light as a result of oppressive customs. Throughout this article, it has been aimed to reflect the analysis of short story with the problems that African women experiencing in a patriarchal society. Conclusion of the essay helps the reader to understand the problems and double standards that women have been exposed to and to find out possible solutions with the help of education.
