Özet

Abstract: Tetrakis-benzimidazoles draw attention with their structural similarities to ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) which is a medication used in the management and treatment of heavy metal toxicity, as well as having many different derivatives. In addition to the tetradentate feature due to the donor characteristic of the C=N nitrogen atom in each benzimidazole unit, there are also tetrakis-benzimidazole derivatives that show ligand properties up to octadentate through donor atoms such as N and O in the bridge units. The applications of tetrakis-benzimidazole derivatives and various metal complexes in many fields such as corrosion inhibitor, catalyst, enzyme inhibitor, superoxide dismutase, catalase activity, superoxide oxidase, DNA affinity, determination of H2O2, were investigated. In this study, a comprehensive review was conducted on N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(1H-benzimidazol-2-ylmethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine (EDTB), a hexadentate tetrakis-benzimidazole derivative. Synthesis routes, properties, various complexes of EDTB and its derivatives, their structural features and application areas have been reviewed and compiled in order to be useful for researchers who will work in this field.
