Trypsin, an enzyme from serine protease class, is known to be involved in the
destruction of proteins. Excessive activity of trypsin could strongly implicate
in various diseases such as acute pancreatitis, inflammation and tumour and
balanced activity of trypsin is necessary for different physiological functions.
For this purpose, it is needed to develop new trypsin inhibitors from natural
sources.
In our study, the inhibitory effects of aqueous extracts prepared from
different plants was investigated on tyrpsin enzyme activity which is known to
have an important value in health and industrial area in recent years. The
results showed that inhibition % values of plant extracts on trypsin were
increased with increasing concentration.
Pomegranate was found as the most effective trypsin inhibitor among the
plant extracts.
It can be suggested that several plant extracts which shows high trypsin
inhibitory activity may be appropriate to be used as trypsin inhibitors and
will provide an additional support to drug treatment in the field of health.
