Abstract

Forensic toxicology is a branch of science that helps to clarify the intoxication and death cases by determining all kinds of substances in solid, liquid, gaseous form that may have toxic effects, and carries out the toxicological analysis process by using physical and biological evidence. A wide variety of analytical methods such as spectrophotometric, chromatographic, spectroscopic and some advanced analytical systems have been used for forensic toxicology analysis from past to present. In cases where chromatographic or spectroscopic methods alone are not sufficient to assess toxic exposures, combined analytical systems and methods are also used for more sensitive analyses. The basic principles of all these methods and their use in the field are discussed in this chapter.

Adli toksikoloji, toksik etki gösterebilecek katı, sıvı, gaz formundaki her türlü maddeyi tayin ederek zehirlenme ve ölüm vakalarını aydınlatmaya yardımcı olan, fiziksel ve biyolojik delillerden yararlanarak toksikolojik analiz sürecini yürüten bir bilim dalıdır. Adli toksikoloji analizleri için geçmişten günümüze spektrofotometrik, kromatografik, spektroskopik ve bazı ileri analitik sistemler gibi çok çeşitli analitik yöntemler kullanılmaktadır. Toksik maruziyetleri değerlendirmek için tek başına kromatografik veya spektroskopik yöntemlerin yeterli olmadığı durumlarda ise daha hassas analizler için birleştirilmiş analitik sistemlerin ve yöntemlerin kullanılması da söz konusudur. Tüm bu yöntemlerin temel prensipleri ve alandaki kullanımı bu bölümde ele alınmıştır.
