Özet
Forestry faces a complex management situation. The SFM approach now goes beyond simply ensuring sustainable timber production. SFM strategies must fulfill ecological, economic, and social functions without harming other ecosystems. Under this approach, forest management actions cannot be evaluated in isolation or based on a single factor. The Forest Europe system is dynamic and continuously updated. All six criteria are related to wildlife. Although there are related indicators, there are no criteria or indicators that directly address wildlife. Even in a comprehensive criterion such as biodiversity, it has been found that wildlife is not directly and sufficiently addressed. This is a major shortcoming in protecting forest integrity. It is critical to include wildlife as a main topic, not a subtopic, in future international meetings so that sustainable decisions can be made. As seen in many international definitions of SFM, this is an economic policy, and it is critical to include the economic value of both living and non-living elements of wildlife. Human activities affect wildlife and therefore determine the success of SFM. For this reason, “wildlife health and diversity” should also be added to the Forest Europe process as a separate indicator or sub-criterion of SFM criteria.
