The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of Women's Attitudes Towards Smoking Cessation Questionnaire/Smoking and Women Questionnaire(SWQ) developed by Elsie E. Gulick et al., and to determine the attitudes and readiness to stop smoking in nursing students. In the first stage; SWQ was translated into Turkish and then back-translated into English. The language equivalence and content validity of SWQ was evaluated by experts. In the second stage; Turkish SWQ was administered to 80 smoking and non-smoking nursing students who constituted the sample of the study. The data were analyzed by using Cronbach's alpha and Pearson product-moment correlation on a statistics package program SPSS 10.0 for Windows (Statistical Program for Social Sciences). Test - re test correlation coefficient was found 0.63 for smokers and 0.77 for non-smokers. Cronbach's Alpha coefficients between 0.70-0.88, and item total correlations between -0.00-0.72 demonstrated that Turkish version of this questionnaire is valid and can be used in Turkey.
