Özet

Alexithymia, characterized by difficulty in expressing emotions, is considered either a deficit present in certain psychiatric pathologies or a transdiagnostic risk factor for various psychopathologies. Currently, three factors were accepted for alexithymia: difficulty identifying feelings, difficulty describing feelings, and externally oriented thinking. Alexithymia is thought to contribute to poorer outcomes in some psychopathologies. It is also recommended that alexithymia be targeted in therapeutic interventions. Obesity and overweight are a global health problem. Pediatric obesity has also increased worldwide in recent years. In addition to genetic and environmental factors in the etiology of obesity, emotional dysregulation and overeating as a result of impaired interoceptive awareness have also been investigated as risk factors. In addition, alexithymia could have a prognostic effect in the treatment of obesity. In line with the literature, most of the data reported from Turkey indicate that alexithymia is highly prevalent in obese/overweight adolescents and may be associated with the consequences of obesity.
