Özet

The ultrastructural changes in the endocrine part of the pancreas of the streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats orally treated with glipizide 18 Wistar albino rats used in this study were divided into three groups, each group comprising 6 rats. The first group was the control group. Each rat of the second group was administered a single dose of STZ (65 mg/kg). The STZ induced diabetic rats of the third group were treated orally with glipizide 0.25 mg/kg/day for 35 days. After this period all rats were sacrificed to prepare pancreatic tissue samples for electron microscopic examination. We observed number of degranulated and degenerated and occasionally normal B cells in the third group. A and D cells were not altered in their fine structures and kept their normal appearances. Besides, mixed cells on the periphery of the islet and cells with endocrine character within the exocrine part of the pancreas were observed. As a result, we may think that glipizide gives important morphological findings, implying the possibility of cytotrophic effect.
