Özet
Objective: The extensor hallucis brevis muscle is one of the intrinsic muscles located on the dorsum of the foot. Tendinous variations of the extensor hallucis brevis are extremely rare. The aim of this study was to describe a rare tendinous variation of the extensor hallucis brevis muscle identified during cadav eric dissection. Case: A tendinous variation of the extensor hallucis brevis mus cle was identified in the left lower extremity of an 86-year-old male cadaver dissected for educational purposes. In this case, two distinct tendons originated from the muscle belly of the extensor hallucis brevis. The first tendon was observed to insert onto the dorsal aspect of the base of the proximal phalanx of the hallux. The second tendon, which had a band-like appearance, was found to insert into the first dorsal interosseous muscle and the deep fascia located between the first and second toes. No struc tural variation was observed in the proximal tendon or muscle belly of the extensor hallucis brevis. Conclusion: Awareness of tendinous variations of the extensor hallucis brevis muscle may help reduce the risk of complica tions during surgical procedures involving the dorsum of the foot and may contribute to improved surgical outcomes.
