Özet

OBJECTIVE: There are very different imaging characteristics of hepatic lesions. Differentiation of these lesions is especially important in diagnosis of benign and malignant lesions. In this study, we are presenting typical MRI features of various liver lesions with a liver-specific contrast agent (gadoxetic acid) that has variable or nondiagnostic appearances on conventional contrast-enhanced MRI examinations. METHODS: First, dynamic liver MRI was performed on eight patients (three women, five men; mean age 41 years) with conventional agents. After determining the nondiagnostic features of these lesions, all patients were re-examined by gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI. The characteristics of the hepatobiliary phase images of these examinations were evaluated by comparing with conventional imaging findings. RESULTS: In any of the patients, conventional analyses were not reliably diagnostic; therefore, they were proposed to follow-up with the prediagnosed findings. According to the hepatobiliary phase images, diagnostic findings in accordance with hepatocellular carcinoma (n=2), decompensated cirrhotic parenchymal area (n=2), dysplastic nodule (n=8), focal nodular hyperplasia (n=4), abscess with cholangitis (n=1), and adenoma (n=1) were reported by the same reader. CONCLUSION: Gadoxetic acid, as the latest generation liver-specific contrast agent, allows for further diagnostic characterization of hepatic lesions with characteristic hepatobiliary imaging findings on dynamic MRI examination. © 2014 Egyptian Liver Journal.
