Özet
The purposes of "Levent Valley Geopark Inventory Study" investigate each of many caves "which known to be over hundred" and study and record geological structures which could develop to become geosite both within the valley and the surrounding area. In Levent Valley -which is located at Levent, Akçadaǧ village of Malatya- Lithostratigraphic units are surfaced dating back to Upper Cretaceous-Pliocene. The karstic caves found on the joints which is result of cross cutting of the faults of the main faults cutting through the valley, are mostly shaped by people who lived in the valley. Especially twin caves at the skirts of Yi{dotless}ǧi{dotless}li{dotless}çaki{dotless}l hill, caves located on the rock walls south of Yi{dotless}ǧi{dotless}li{dotless}çaki{dotless}l hill, the Temple Cave, The Dark Cave, The Large Cave at west of Şekilce town, The Triple Caves, Kolköy caves west of Levent town, and Küçükkürne Caves North of Levent are good examples of human-geology relation. There no information about the period when people lived in the valley, and when the first caves was digged. But based on surrounding settlements, these settlements could be back to Paleolitic period. As result of the studies in this valley, the term Archeo-geosite is proposed for discussion. During the field studies, all inventory items were inspected individually and detailed measurements were recorded for items that could become geosite. These studies took almost 10 hours a day walking the area on foot. As a result of the studies 26 Geosite and Archeo-geosite were identified. Trail paths were documented on maps, height and area of the caves were measured. By the and of study it is concluded, Levent Valley and surrounding area not only as a geopark but also, as an archeological site could become a World Heritage. © SGEM2012 All Rights Reserved by the International Multidisciplinary Scientific GeoConference SGEM Published by STEF92 Technology Ltd.
