Özet
In the recently available 'Diprivan' preparation, propofol does not contain Cremophor EL vehicle. In clinical use, there are contradictory results in the neuromuscular blocking effect of propofol without Cremophor EL. The aim of our study is to show whether propofol in pure emulsion directly blocks neuromuscular transmission and potentializes the neuromuscular blocking effects of the drugs that are used together in anaesthesia as tubocurarin, atracurium and vecuronium or not. In the experiments, diaphragm muscle contraction amplitude is measured with diaphragm-phrenic nerve preparation as described by Bulbring. According to the results, propofol performs block in the neuromuscular junction like the depolarizing agents. Also, it was observed that propofol potentiates, the block performed by non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents such as vecuronium, atracurium and tubocurarin which are often used together with propofol. When the potentialization of this block by propofol is explained regarding the phase it affects, it gains the characteristic of non-depolarizing block.
