Özet

Proper risk management is mandatory to eliminate risk factors for the health of the employees and the safety of the system by providing a safe working environment and keeping the risk, which cannot be eliminated, at the lowest possible level. After the risk assessment, the prevention methods can be sorted in order of importance; eliminating the risk, replacing the risk with the less risky ones, on-site collective protection preventions, and using personal protection and equipment. Theoretically, the costs of occupational safety preventions must be implemented by the employer without considering it as a cost parameter. However, most of the time, the preventions are ignored by the employer or the contractor because of the high cost. Maintaining risks at an acceptable level is a key priority of risk management. This paper presents a cost optimization approach to ensure an acceptable level of risk. A case study was carried out in an open-pit mining application.
