Drilling is one of the primary operations in the open-pit mining cycle. Any failure in drilling equipment affects the operational production schedule directly. Therefore, analysis of drilling system reliability and availability are to sustain the operation. In this paper, whether the drilling machine exhibits a trend; if so, type of trend, a fitting model, and determination of availability are investigated in a case study. This case study focuses on analyzing system failure data of three drilling machines to detect any trend. Laplace trend test was applied to test the null hypothesis. Graphical methods were used to identify a degrading trend. In addition, the system intensity function was modeled and tests by the statistical goodness of fit test called Cramer-von Mises. A full factorial design was also used to determine critical factors for a drilling operation. Finally, the availability of each system was calculated.
