Abstract

Community Service courses has started to be taught as a compulsory subject in the faculties of education in Turkey in

accordance with the changes made by the Council for Higher Education in 2006-2007. The aims of this course are the

students become sensitive to local and global issues, be able to create solutions for these problems actively participate as

individual or in teams in the solution process be active in social and cultural activities, to contribute to the enhancement

of self-assessment skills. In this context; the students make a voluntary course work and then they provide a portfolio on

this work in a specific format layout. Instructor acting as an adviser helps students to choose the topics for their voluntary

work. The evaluation notes of the course are determined through evaluation of the students’ final report by educators.

The aim of this study is to explain how Community Service Application course is given in face to face training courses

and web-based distance education model, and start a debate about the appropriateness of this model.
