Özet
Throughout the centuries, historical masonry
structures, which constitute a significant part of our historical and cultural
heritage, have suffered significant losses due to reasons such as earthquakes,
fires, wars, and neglect caused by adverse environmental conditions. We have
only been partially successful in truly preserving and safeguarding this
heritage. Historical buildings have been partially protected, but the preservation
approach followed has left some of these structures to their fate, lacking an
effective and sustainable conservation practice. One of the main reasons for
this deficiency is that structural assessment and preservation practices
present a complex issue with many challenges and uncertainties, requiring a
multidisciplinary approach.
Security,
reliability, risk, and sustainability are the most crucial concepts in the
preservation of cultural heritage. Especially in cities like Istanbul, where
the risk of earthquakes is high, it is essential to address each historical
masonry structure individually.
The
primary objective in the
preservation of historical artifacts should be to ensure their safe transfer to
the future while maintaining their structural integrity. During restoration
works, it is essential to work without compromising the original qualities of
the structure. Unfortunately, the subject of how repair works should be carried
out, striking a delicate balance between the preservation and intervention of
historical masonry structures, is not adequately discussed in our country. In
this study, the structural deterioration and detection methods in Köprülü
Mehmet Pasha tomb, located in the historical peninsula of Istanbul, have been
examined, and recommendations have been provided for its restoration and
structural repair.
