Özet

In recent years, the use of environmentally friendly production approaches in textile finishing has become an important issue. The enzymes used in these processes are biocatalysts consisting of metabolic products of living organisms derived from bacteria. Researchers have turned to environmentally friendly manufacturing approaches in textile wet processes and have conducted many research studies on the realization of environmentally friendly production with the use of enzymes. In this purpose, amylase in desizing, catalase in the removal of hydrogen peroxide after bleaching, laccase in the removal of indigo dyes in denim fabrics, peroxidase in the oxidation of non-covalently bound dyestuff in reactive dyes, lipase desizing in the presence of oils in spinning, pectinase in the bio-cleaning of raw cotton or flax, cellulase in the enzymatic stone washing of jeans and denim garments and in the removal of free fibril ends from the fiber surface by mechanical action. In this context, this chapter aims to inform about history of enzymes and enzymatic treatments, enzyme immobilization, structure of enzymes, enzymatic treatments of textile finishing, and ecological approaches of enzymatic treatments are used. Enzymatic treatments can be accepted as an eco-friendly and sustainable technology to alternative the traditional textile finishing process and promising for cleaner production.
