Arcobacters have been accepted as "important zoonotic pathogenic" bacterial species and has emerged as one of the leading reason of gastroenteritis in humans and animals. The disease threatens the public health. These bacteria have been detected world wide, in products of animal origin, healthy animals, animals with watery diarrhea and also in surface water. The potential of zoonotic foodborne and waterborne agents, the routes of transmission and the pathogenic mechanisms of these bacteria have not been elucidated yet. This review focuses on the occurrence, the detection methods and arcobacters’ significance in animals and humans.
