Biomarkers are necessary for screening and diagnosing numerous diseases, predicting the prognosis of patients, and following-up treatment and the course of the patient. Every day new biomarkers are being used in clinics for these purposes. This section will discuss the physiological roles of the various current biomarkers in a healthy person and the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the release of these biomarkers. This chapter aims to gain a new perspective for evaluating and interpreting the most current biomarkers.
