Özet

The aim of this research is to reveal the difference in approach towards the image of women in textbooks of two countries. The analysis was carried out in the Life Sciences textbooks taught in Türkiye and The World Around Us textbooks taught in Russia in primary school in the 2021-2022 academic year. In this direction, the frequency of showing adult women and men in the visual elements in the relevant textbooks, the occupations of male and female figures and the actions in which they are presented were examined. Therefore, qualitative research method was used in the study. The data of the research was obtained through document analysis. The obtained data were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. The results show that the rate of women being shown in textbooks taught in Türkiye is higher than that of men. Moreover, women are portrayed in high-status professions. Despite this, some occupations are associated only with men. There are few examples of the division of labor between men and women. In textbook taught in Russia, the rate of women being shown is less than that of men. Occupational diversity of women is also less than that of men. Women are more associated with housework. As a result, it can be said that the presentation of the image of women in terms of gender representations in the textbooks is more successful in the textbooks in Turkey than in textbooks in Russia. However, the textbooks of both countries cannot be said in accordance with the gender equality. In this context, it can be suggested that in the textbooks should be approached in an equal way in the representation of occupational groups and more examples of successful women should be included.
