BaLTech Congress, İstanbul, Türkiye, 16 - 17 Mayıs 2022, ss.1, (Özet Bildiri)
Nowadays medical residencies and PhD programs in abroad, especially in the USA and Germany, attract Turkish internships which causes a great competition among the candidates. Although knowing an advanced level of foreign language is crucial in this competition, it's not enough alone. To be a step forward from other competitors, having a distinguished curriculum vitae (CV) gains vital importance. A distinguished CV should contain publications in internationally indexed journals, oral presentations, awards, and the advanced skills of research: laboratory practice skills, the experience on research methodology, the ability of processing raw experimental data, the ability of statistical assessment of input data and evaluating validity of the results. For all these achievements to come true, internships need to find a student-friendly lodestar who is/are willing to guide, teach and navigate them. Even though finding a lodestar is hardly possible, there are many other restrictive factors as hectic in academic programs of the lodestar and candidate, financial limitations such as laboratory expenses, high research budgets including journal costs etc. Consequently, besides the disadvantages of attending from a developing country, Turkey, there are many other aforementioned limitations and restrictions which hardens the opportunity of medical residency and PhD programs. It seems essential for Turkish candidates to prepare a distinguished CV to overcome these handicaps.
