Family literacy is a vital instrument for strengthening the cultural assets of communities and fostering social change. This study aimed to explore the impacts of a family literacy program (FLP) on parents and children living in a small settlement in Türkiye. To this end, family literacy practices in the village were explored and enhanced by considering cultural dynamics. The data were collected through interviews, home visits, observations, and surveys. The study spanned 25 months and covered both preschool and primary school levels. The analysis results showed that family literacy was initially low in the village; however, it significantly improved through the implementation of an effective FLP. The quantitative findings also supported this result. When family literacy, early literacy skills, and other literacy competencies were supported, educational opportunities became more equitable. Therefore, the development of FLPs that incorporate cultural influences holds potential for advancing social change, particularly in developing countries.
