Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the levels of perceived stress and burnout among healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 240 healthcare professionals working at a Training and Research Hospital between 5 July and 1 August 2020. The study data were collected through the online completion of the ‘Data Collection Form’, which was created using Google Forms, by the participants, and the face-to-face administration of the ‘Perceived Stress Scale’ and the ‘Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey’ at the hospital. Descriptive statistics, the independent samples t-test, and ANOVA tests were used in the data analysis, and the level of association between the two variables was determined using the Pearson correlation test. Results: It was observed that the burnout level of health care workers was high and the perceived stress level was at average values. Significant differences were found in the comparisons of the scale and sub-dimension scores of the participants according to the level of education, unit of employment, occupational groups, working style, and working time in the profession. It was found that the independent factors affecting the Perceived Stress Scale scores were ‘nurse/midwife, auxiliary and other health personnel’ in professions, and ‘burnout’ and ‘competence’ level in scale sub-dimensions. Conclusion: During the COVID-19 pandemic, high levels of stress and burnout were observed among healthcare workers. It is thought that these situations can be prevented by rapidly controlling the risks that may develop in pandemic situations.
