In this study, the flow in the shrinking y-pipe, which is frequently encountered in practice, was examined for varying diameters. It is considered as a steady, two-dimensional flow, solved with FEniCS for Newtonian fluid. FEniCS is an open source computing platform for solving partial differential equations. First, a shrinking y-pipe mesh is created. Later, the variational form of Stokes equation was obtained to make a solution on this mesh. Thus, with FEniCS, the problem of flow in the y pipe has been solved. For varying diameters, the method was repeated and new solutions were obtained, and their effects on flow were investigated. Thus, with this study, a preliminary idea can be obtained before conducting an experimental study on the effect of the amount of contraction of diameters on flow, for situations encountered in practice.
