Özet

This chapter discusses various bioglasses and bioceramics and their use as drug delivery systems. Bioglass ceramics/bioactive glasses are inorganic materials that can be fabricated via divergent techniques depending on their intended application. These materials are commonly employed in hard tissue applications, but their use is growing due to their ease of modification during manufacturing. The assessment of the use of bioglass ceramics as drug delivery techniques has attracted a lot of focus recently since several features of these materials, including particle size, pore size, and porosity, which are critical for drug delivery systems, can be regulated during fabrication. These biomaterials can be used as local and/or systemic biomolecule carrier systems, thanks to the production method and the properties obtained in line with this method. In this chapter, the use of these substances in drug delivery mechanisms for different tissues and diseases, such as cancer and osteomyelitis, based on various loading and release strategies, is discussed.
