ABSTRACT DIFFERENT ACTORS IN THE FOOTBALL FIELD IN TURKEY: THE ROLE OF THE TRANSLATION AND THE TRANSLATOR Football does not have an official history, even though it has garnered attention since the first time it was played. Football has been the subject of many different forms of research because of its popularity and dynamic nature. In our research, we will focus on the factors that caused the popularizatıon of football, within the context of global development. In this project, the sociological, technological and economic aspects in the field will be examined. Our research will be examined through the sociological theory of Pierre Bourdieu regarding habitus, field, game, positioning, location, and relationally. Pascale Boniface’s work regarding the effects of globalization on football will also be examined. Additionally, we will outline the roles, positions and responsibilities of the actors that were involved throughout the development of the game. Football’s development will be researched within its relationship with popular culture and the economy. The responsibility and the crucial position of the translator throughout the process of translation will be examined. We interviewed several professionals in the field to determine our results. Consequently, the changes are evaluated in conjunction with the actors mentioned. The rules and laws that affected these developments are also examined. As a result of this research, the effects of the Bosman Ruling are taken into account.In the end, we determined that the process of globalization significantly altered the roles and responsibilities of the actors involved. We researched the newly formed language, which emerged as a result of globalization and we discovered a discrepancy in football language. Ultimately, the occupation of ‘football translator’, in regards to role and responsibility, is different from its counterpart in Europe.
