Abstract

Acne is a skin disease that can affect both pediatric and adult age groups, characterized by chronic inflammation in the pilosebaceous unit, and polymorphic skin lesions. In patients with acne, both mild and severe involvement may develop scarring during the healing process, and the scars, which can be permanent for life, may cause serious psychosocial problems ranging from stigmatization to suicide in patients due to the dystrophic appearance it causes. Acne scars can be seen in very different morphologies with the effect of many parameters such as severity of inflammation, depth, time to start treatment, familial and individual characteristics, as well as manipulation and recurrence of lesions, and treatment options and combinations of scars vary according to clinical subtypes. Therefore, knowing the scar anatomy well will guide the treatment.
