Objective: Evaluation of Sylvian fissure lenghth and Sylvian fisure angle in pregnant population and present normograms correlated to the gestational age. Material and Methods: 332 pregnant women, 15-31 weeks of gestation, refering to Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for routine antenatal follow-up between November 2011-October 2012 were examined. Sylvian fissure lenghth and sylvian fisure angle were measured and normograms correlated to the gestational age are presented. Results: Sylvian fissures were observed in all fetuses with and over 15 weeks of gestation. Sylvian fissure length was found to increase with gestational age and a positive correlation between them was found (r=0.894, p<0.001). With progressing gestational age Sylvian fissure angle was decreasing because of folding of temporal lobe over Sylvian fissure and a negative correlation was found between gestational age and Sylvian fissure angle (r=-0,973, p<0.001). Sylvian fissure angles in all fetuses over 31 weeks of gestation were observed closed. Sylvian fissure length and Sylvian fissure angle normograms correlated to the the gestational age were determined. Conclusion: While examining the anatomy of the head of the fetus with ultrasound Sylvian fissure which can be easily seen should also be examined. Normograms that we presented will allow an objective evaluation of Sylvian fissure. Copyright © 2014 by Türkiye Klinik leri.
