Özet
Hospital infections caused by resistant microorganisms pose an important risk for intensive care patients. These microorganisms can be transported to the intensive care unit by different pathways and transmitted to the patients by the hands of health care staff. In this study nasal and pharyngeal colonization at the time of admission had been studied in different ICU patients. Nasal and pharyngeal swabs were obtained from 100 patients who were admitted from community, from other hospitals or from other wards. All swabs had been studied using standard bacteriologic techniques in order to identify microorganisms which may cause serious infections. In 57% of the patients significant colonizations had been identified, and patients from other hospitals or other wards showed a statistically significant risk for colonization. It had been concluded that in these high risk patients surveillance cultures and strict isolation techniques during the bacteriologic process can be helpful in limiting the spread of resistant microorganisms.
