Özet
Carbon monoxide poisoning is a common and deadly public health
problem worldwide. Carbon monoxide binds to hemoglobin in the blood,
reducing the amount of oxygen that can be carried to the body's tissues,
leading to hypoxia and tissue damage, particularly in the brain and heart.
The traditional treatment of patients with carbon monoxide poisoning is
normobaric and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Severe carbon monoxide
poisonings have persistent neurological effects and high morbidity rates.
As the pathophysiology of carbon monoxide poisoning is understood,
new treatment methods are being researched and developed. These new
and promising treatment methods are: antidote treatments aiming at
preventing oxidative stress and inflammation, neuroprotective drugs,
treatments that prevent the binding of carbon monoxide to hemecontaining
proteins, and methods that increase the separation of carbon
monoxide from hemoglobin, are treatment methods that have the ability
to regenerate and repair damaged tissues.
