Adli toksikolojinin temel çalışma alanı olan toksik maddeler, canlı vücudunda meydana getirdiği ve ölüme
kadar uzanabilen yan etkiler ile adli vakalara sıkça konu olmaktadır. Bu maddeler geleneksel yasa dışı
maddeler olabileceği gibi, yeni nesil psikoaktif maddeler, ilaç etken maddeleri, uçucu organik bileşikler,
bitkisel zehirler, pestisitler ya da ağır metaller de olabilmektedirler. Toksik madde kaynaklı yaralanma ve
ölüm olgularını, madde etkisi altında araç kullanma olgularını, madde ile kolaylaştırılmış suçları açığa
çıkarmak için bu maddelerin sınıflandırılması, etki mekanizması, olası zararlarının iyi bilinmesi gerekmektedir. Bu noktadan hareketle, kitabın bu bölümünde adli toksikolojiye konu olan toksik maddelerin
sınıflandırılması, vücutta meydana getirdiği hasarlar ile kapsamlı bir şekilde ele alınmıştır.
Toxic substances, which are the main focus of forensic toxicology, are frequently the subject of forensic cases with their side effects that can extend to death in the living body. These substances
may be illegal substances, new psychoactive substances, drug active medicines, volatile organic
compounds, herbal poisons, pesticides or heavy metals. In order to reveal the cases of injury and
death caused by toxic substances, the cases of driving under the influence of substances, and the
crimes facilitated by drugs, it is necessary to comprehend the classification, mechanism of action
and possible harm of these substances well. From this point of view, in this chapter of the book, the
classification of toxic substances and the damage they cause in the body are discussed in detail.
