Özet
Introduction: The value given to sports and athletes has been increasing from past to present. It has also gained importance that athletes and sports teams achieve new successes. For this purpose, various exercise approaches such as Blood Flow Restriction Training (BFR), High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Sprint Interval Training (SIT) are applied to improve and maintain athlete performance. Purpose: The present review aims to summarize the effects of these current exercise approaches used to improve and maintain performance on athlete performance, based on current studies. Methods: Studies included in the review are selected by searching MEDLINE, Web of Science (WoS), SCOPUS. Results: All of the BFR studies (15) and SIT studies (9) (100%) showed that these exercise approaches have positive effects on sportive performance. Considering the studies on HIIT, positive results were obtained in 15 of 16 studies (93.75%). In another 1 study (6.25%), it was reported that it may have an effect if used as a part of the program. Discussion and Conclusion: There is evidence that adding BFR, HIIT, and SIT approaches to athletes' training programs can positively affect their competitiveness and success. When the studies conducted in the past 10 years are examined, several studies are showing that HIIT and SIT approaches provide improvements, especially to maximum aerobic capacity, and BFR to strength and endurance. However, there is a need for studies with a high level of evidence investigating the effectiveness of these exercise approaches on athletes of different sports, different genders, ages, and their comparison with each other.
