Özet

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the predictive value of HOS test and semen parameters in patients with total fertilization failure during IVF. STUDY DESIGN: In Istanbul University Cerrahpasa School of Medicine IVF Unit, the HOS test and semen parameters of 52 patients with total fertilization failure on at least two occasions during IVF cycles were compared with the results of 20 men who had successful fertilization with IVF and at least one offspring. RESULT(s): The HOS test results in the total fertilization failure and control groups were 34±27% and 56±23%, respectively (p<0.01). The mean sperm motility in the total fertilization failure and control groups were 27.18±10.31% and 53.50±11.27%, respectively (p<0.001). The mean percentage of normal morphological forms were 7.4±2.2% and 13.55±4.10% (p<0.01). CONCLUSION(s): HOS test results were significantly lower in patients with total fertilization failure. Abnormal HOS test can predict the fertilization failure in IVF candidates whose classical sperm parameters seem to be appropriate for conventional IVF procedure.
