Sedation and analgesia during the pediatric dermatologic procedures effect the success of the treatment. The safety and efficiency of the drugs used for this purpose increased significantly in the recent years. The pain and sedation control prior to procedures could be applied non-pharmacologically and pharmacologically. Local anesthetic creams and peripheral nerve blocks may be applied for achieving minimal sedation and anxiolysis. Local anesthetic pharmacology in pediatrics should be well-known and emergency precautions should be available in case of toxicity. The primary importance for the pediatric patient is to overview the physical examination and evaluation of positive findings before the procedure. The parents should be informed in detail prior to the procedure about both the analgesic and sedation technique and the procedure itself. The non-pharmacologic sedative approach should be the first step. If a pharmacologic treatment such as midazolam is required the use of high doses of drugs should be neglected. Topical anesthetics with a minimal sedative seems the safest method in office procedures. A printed form consisting the drug of choice and/or approaches and a contact telephone number should be given to the family after the procedure.
