Wound healing is a complex and dynamic process, and the wound environment changes with the shifting
health status of an individual. Wound cases in cats and dogs can be a serious health issue, and it is important for
them to be treated quickly and effectively. Especially, the treatment of open wounds caused by any internal or
external trauma that exposes the internal tissue to the external environment is the most challenging. To achieve a
good outcome, it requires more expertise and time, and most of the existing treatments are often ineffective. This
also affects the patients' quality of life and can cause significant pain and suffering for the patient, making it
economically important as well. However, technological advancements and research in wound care and treatment
have provided opportunities for the development of new and advanced technologies and products in addition to
traditional treatment methods. The aim of this review is to present the current information on contemporary
supportive treatment methods developed to expedite the open wound healing process, reduce wound care costs,
and achieve better outcomes. It also aims to evaluate the effectiveness and advantages of these methods through
relevant studies.
