Özet

Lateral ventral hernia (Spigelian Hernia) is a rare; mostly congenital surgical pathology in childhood. It is classified as an interstitial hernia rising from weakness of transverse abdominal muscle fascia. In some cases the weakness can arise from the external abdominal muscle fascia. Cryptorchidism frequently accompanies the hernia. Primary repair of the weak region is sufficient for treatment. Strangulation can be seen in late presenting cases. Our case was a 10 month old male patient with undescended testis accompanying the lateral ventral hernia. The hernia had been diagnosed at birth but remained untreated. The case was managed succcesfully despite late admission. Synthetic mesh was used as support due to the additional external oblique muscle fascia weakness. In the 1.5 year follow-up we have not encountered any complication. Clinical suspicion and correct diagnosis is important for the management and prevention of complications of this rare disorder. Primary repair is sufficient in most cases; additional support with synthetic material may be required in cases with external oblique muscle and fascia weakness.
