Geometri, matematiksel çalışmanın önemli bir alanıdır ve matematiğin önemli bir dalı olarakdüşünülür. Geometrik kavramların kazanıldığı dönem temel eğitimdir. Bundan dolayı bu araştırma,dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin geometri konularıyla ilgili düşüncelerini belirleme amacıylagerçekleştirilmiş olan tarama modelinde bir araştırmadır. Araştırmanın örneklemi, İstanbul ilindeiki ilkokulun altı şubesinde bulunan amaçlı örneklemle seçilen 161 dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerindenoluşmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak “Geometri Öğrenci Görüşü Belirleme Formu”kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada öğrencilerin geometriyi ‘şekil’, ‘cisim’, ‘matematiğin bir konusu’ ve‘ölçme’ olarak tanımladıkları; en çok sevdiği geometri konularının en çoktan en aza doğru ‘açı’;‘şekil’; ‘bütün konular’; ‘üçgen’ ve ‘prizma’; ‘çevre’; ‘hacim’; ‘ışın’; ‘alan’ ve ‘dikdörtgen’,‘hiçbiri; en sevmediği konuların ise yine en çoktan en aza doğru ‘hiçbiri’; ‘çevre’; ‘açı’; ‘hacim’;‘alan’; ‘ışın’ ve ‘prizma’; ‘şekil’; ‘problemler’; ‘dikdörtgen’; ‘üçgen’ ve ‘bütün konular’ olduğu aynızamanda da matematik konularını geometri konularından daha çok sevdikleri sonuçlarınaulaşılmıştır. Öğrencilerin geometri konularını sevmeleri onları dünyayı daha yakından tanımalarınafırsat vereceği için öğretmenlerin etkinlikleri eğlenceli hale getirmesi önerilmektedir.
Geometry is an important field of mathematical study and is considered an important branch of mathematics. The period in which geometric concepts are gained is basic education. For this reason, this research study was designed in the survey model with the purpose of determining the opinions of fourth-grade students about geometrical subjects. The study sample consisted of 161 fourth grade students who were selected with purposive sampling from six branches of two primary schools in Istanbul. “Geometry Student Opinion Determination Form” that was developed by the researcher was used as data collection tool. It was concluded that students described the geometry as ‘shape’, ‘field’, ‘a subject of mathematics’ and ‘measurement’; their most favourite geometry subjects from the most to the least are as follow: ‘angle’; ‘shape’ ‘all subjects’; ‘triangle’ and ‘prism’; ‘circumference’; ‘volume’; ‘ray’; ‘area‘ and ‘rectangle’, ‘none’; their most unfavourite subjects from the most to the least are: ‘none’; ‘circumference’; ‘angle’; ‘volume’; ‘area’; ‘ray’ and ‘prism’; ‘shape’, ‘problems’; ‘rectangle’; ‘angle’ and ‘all subjects’; and they like the subjects of math more than geometrical ones. It is suggested that teachers make the activities fun because the students love geometry subjects that will allow them to get to know the world more closely.
