Özet

Singapore has linguistically diverse settings that it has four official languages: English, Malay, Tamil, and Mandarin Chinese. In Singapore, English has been taken as a national and international lingua franca (Pakir, 2010) and as a language that connects this island city-state to the rest of the world (Low & Pakir, 2018). To meet the country's needs, the English Language (EL) Curriculum and Pedagogy Review Committee (ELCPRC) was set up in September 2005 to revise and reshape the teaching and learning of English in Singapore schools (CA International, 2017). Having different school types based on the needs of the students, the curriculum was designed according to the needs of 21st century pupils. It emphasizes areas of language learning which are delivered spirally and in an integrated way. Considering mastering skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving, it can be said that Singapore's EL curriculum sufficiently meets the needs of its students. According to the flexibility that the curriculum gives its operators, namely teachers, we can infer that MoE pays attention to their teachers and invests significantly in teacher development.
