Özet
This study aims to examine how reading books differentiates the personal-professional competence levels of pre-service physical education and sports teachers. For this purpose, a mixed method research in which quantitative and qualitative data were collected together in line with the purpose of the research was preferred. "Explanatory sequential design" was determined as the research design. The planning of the research design was designed to consist of two stages. The quantitative phase, which is the first of these phases, was carried out within the scope of the quasi-experimental model with the pretest-posttest control group, and the qualitative phase was carried out within the scope of the phenomenology design. The convenience sampling method was preferred when determining the sample group of the study. A total of 60 pre-service teachers participated in the intervention process, equally distributed among the control, comparison, and experimental groups according to the matching method. At the end of the intervention process, a focus group interview was organized with 8 outlier participants using the outlier sampling method. As a result of the research, it was determined that reading books in the field of teaching increased pre-service teachers' personal-professional competencies. In addition, it was stated that reading books contributed to the acquisition of reading habits, increased academic motivation, effective communication, developing different perspectives, acquiring professional knowledge and increasing professional awareness.
