This study seeks to evaluate the incorporation of ChatGPT, an AI-based
tool, in developing instructional materials for language classrooms.
Volunteer language instructors participated in a hands-on workshop led
by industry professionals. A post-workshop survey evaluated the
participants’ perspectives on ChatGPT’s usefulness and the likelihood of
its future incorporation into instruction. The research also included an
evaluation of instructional materials created with ChatGPT. Most
participants viewed ChatGPT as an innovative and advantageous
instrument for creating educational materials. Many educators are willing
to implement ChatGPT in their classrooms. However, concerns regarding
the implementation’s practicality and technical aspects were expressed.
The study concludes that ChatGPT can potentially enhance the creation
of instructional materials in foreign language classrooms. However,
comprehensive training, ongoing support, and a focus on practical
concerns are required for its successful incorporation into language
instruction. This study contributes to a broader understanding of AI’s
function in contemporary pedagogy by providing educators and
policymakers with valuable insights on incorporating AI tools such as
ChatGPT into education.
