Theory and practice in sustainable planning and design, Murat Özyavuz, Editör, Peter Lang Publishing, Inc., Berlin, ss.651-676, 2020
Ecological awareness around the world is increasing due to increased signals
of disruption to natural processes. To address these environmental concerns, the idea of
environmental stewardship and sustainability has recently gained popularity throughout
the developed world. For the building industry many sectors are beginning to advocate
the use of “green” building practices including in healthcare facilities. LEED is one of
the “green” rating systems which has been established through the measurement of sustainability
performance. In Turkey, the Turkish Ministry of Health made the LEED certification
compulsory in hospitals in 2013. Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital, Istanbul gained
the world’s first LEED platinum certificate as a full-fledged “green” hospital in 2018. In
this study, we review the literature on sustainable architectural and landscape designs and
design approaches in hospitals, with particular examination made in the case study of
Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital.
