Özet
The transformation of power systems - driven by high renewable penetration, electrification, digitalization, sector coupling, and increasing climate risks - has significantly reshaped the operational and innovation priorities of Transmission System Operators (TSOs). This study presents a global assessment of innovation strategies and R&D frameworks adopted by more than 60 TSOs across 30 countries and five continents. By evaluating operators with diverse regulatory environments and system scales, the study identifies converging global innovation trends and region-specific approaches in transmission system operation. The analysis is complemented by a structured review of 658 IEEE Transactions publications from 2023-2025, of which 389 were classified into five thematic domains: grid digitalization and AI; high-renewable integration and flexibility; dynamic system operation tools; climate and resilience planning; and sector coupling and hydrogen. The results show that dynamic operation tools dominate recent research, followed by digitalization and renewable integration, while resilience and sector coupling remain emerging but strategically significant areas. By integrating institutional and academic perspectives, the study provides a globally benchmarked overview of evolving transmission system innovation and highlights the shift toward uncertainty-aware, digitally enabled, and resilience-oriented operational frameworks.
