Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the schizotypal features of the unaffected first degree relatives of schizophrenic patients with healthy controls. Methods: The sample was consisted of the relatives of schizophrenic patients, who did not meet any psychiatric diagnostic criteria according to DSM-IV TR and healthy people who and whom first-degree relatives did not have any psychiatric disorder. Subjects were requested to fill out the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire. Results: Odd belief and unusual perceptual experience scores were significantly higher in healthy group. First-degree relatives of schizophrenia patients had significantly higher no close friends subscale scores than healthy controls (3.2 versus 2.2). The cognitive perceptual factor score was significantly higher in healthy control group (8.8 versus 5). With respect to disorganized schizotypy, there was no significant difference between groups. The positive schizotypy was significantly higher in controls (12.2 versus 7.2) whereas negative schizotypy was comparable between groups. Conclusion: Our study supports the view that the disorganization dimension does not show a familial or a genetic association for schizophrenia. Higher scores in no-close friend sub-dimension which is related to negative symptoms of schizophrenia might be related to familial and genetic features of schizophrenia.
