Özet

Distance Education: Theory, Practice, and Evaluation This chapter offers a comprehensive examination of the evolution, theoretical foun dations, and technological transformation of distance education. Initially developed to overcome geographical and socioeconomic barriers, distance education has evolved from correspondence- based instruction to radio, television, and modern digital platforms with synchronous and asynchronous modalities. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly accelerated this transformation. The chapter draws on Moore’s Transactional Distance Theory, Holmberg’s communication- based model, and Siemens’ Connectivism to explore the roles of structure, dialogue, and learner autonomy. Constructivist pedagogy and student- centered teaching strategies are also discussed. Challenges such as communication barriers, digital literacy inequalities, and infrastructure limitations are critically examined in relation to educational effectiveness. The concluding section highlights the potential of artificial intelligence, adaptive learning systems, and immersive technologies such as VR and AR in shaping the future of distance learning.
