Objective: Twenty-five patients with choriocarcinoma who admitted to Department of Medical Oncology in Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine from the year of 1986 to 1992 were evaluated according to their clinical features and treatment modalities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of chemotherapy in patients with choriocarcinoma. Study design: Forty percent of cases (10) were in the low risk group and 60% (15) were in the poor risk group. One case in the low risk group and 6 patients in the poor risk group were initiated to treatment after hysterectomy. Seven patients in stage 1, 1 in stage 2 and 2 in stage 3 were included in the low risk group. These patients received Mtx 150 mg/m2/day for one day, followed by Actinomycin D 12 microgram/kg/day for three days. The poor risk group (13 cases) received Cisplatinum 90 mg/m2, Vinblastine 6 mg/m2, Bleomycine 10 mg/m2, alternating every three weeks with the previous schedule. Results: The six-year-survival rate was 100% in the low risk group and 83% in the poor risk group. Conclusion: Since the results that we obtained were quite satisfactory, we recommend alternating chemotherapy especially in cases in the poor risk group.
