Abstract

The Baskil District in the Upper Fırat River (Euphrates) of the Eastern Anatolia Region was founded on a plains area. Many cultures and settlements have ruled since the Chalcolithic Age.

14 settlements that yielded Iron Age ceramics in their part within the borders of Baskil were identified in two Urartian centers, Habibuşağı and Kaleköy. Excavations were carried out for a short time, albeit briefly, and the Iron Age levels were unearthed at Köşkerbaba and Değirmentepe on the western shore of the Fırat River and İmikuşağı. Körpınar Mound, Tomisa Castle, Muşar Mountain Church, Viransehir Mound, Demirbahce Mound, Asagikulusagi Mound, Odabasi Rock tombs are important archaeological heritage sites of Baskil. Kamikli, Gemibaşı Maltepe, Habibuşağı, Üyücektepe, İmikuşağı, Pirot, İmamoğlu Şemsiyetepe in the historical settlement areas (mounds) were found to be related to the Chalcolithic period. B.C. Between 1700-1500, the finds related to the Assyrian Trade Colonies Period were unearthed in the Imikusagi excavation center in Baskil region.

The settlements were established near and near the Fırat River or other water sources. Morphological, geological and climatic effects Changes in the bed of the Fırat Rivar seem to cause minor changes in the settlement areas. Contrary to the Keban, Ağın and Arapkir regions, there are no studies on the Paleolithic and Mesolithic periods in Baskil and its vicinity. It is known that there are important caves in the region, which bear traces of human life in the Paleolithic period.

In recent years, our cultural heritage sites such as Aşağıkuluşağı Mound and Viransehir Conservation Area have been registered as protected sites in Baskil District. As a result of detailed surveys, underground imaging and archaeological excavations of known areas, the historical history of the region will be better clarified.
